Free online advice for Podiatry patients

Tuesday, May 1st, 2012

A US Podiatrist has launched a free online podiatry website for people suffering with foot disorders.

The site features an educational library which will give patients greater access to information about conditions and possible treatment options. It contains a full list of potential foot problems and a section advising people of when it is the best time to seek treatment.

In addition to treatment, there is also a section dedicated to preventative measures that patients can take to avoid bunions and other foot problems. The library details different exercises that can help prevent foot problems, and contains advice that helps patients to select the right footwear.

Dr Jeffrey Kauffman who launched the site said “We are very excited to be able to offer this service to our patients. I believe that the more educated a patient is, the better chance they have to maintain a healthy lifestyle and take proper care of their feet and ankles.”

The site can be viewed here.

Know your HPC Renewal Deadlines

Tuesday, February 1st, 2011
To ensure that registrant practitioners with the HPC remain on the HPC Register, individual registration needs to be renewed every two years.

Signing the professional declaration confirms the continuation to meet the HPC’s standards of proficiency for safe and effective practice across all 15 registered professions.

Failure to submit the renewal form before the allotted date will result in in a lapse in registration, where the individual’s name will no longer appear on the HPC Register. Unregistered clinicians will lose the right to practise their profession and to use their protected titles and will have to undergo a lengthy readmission process.

The average processing time for renewal applications is approximately ten working days, which may vary depending on the volume of forms received by the HPC. Therefore, it is pertinent to keep in mind the HPC deadlines by profession and ensure renewal forms are submitted with sufficient time.

Innovation and service modernisation need to remain a priority

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

With the never ending talk about cost-cutting and reduction in services it might be worthwhile taking a look at what’s happening in the private sector. Perhaps surprisingly, even during a recession, the companies in Booz Allen’s Global Innovation 1000 study increased their R&D spending in 2008 by 5.7 percent, to US$532 billion.

Top of the pile was Toyota with a global R&D spend of $8.9Bn (up by 4.4% on the previous year), closely followed by Nokia with an innovation spend of $8.7Bn (up by 11.8%) and Roche with $8.2Bn (up by 19.4% on the previous year).

This isn’t the time to give up on innovation and service modernisation, moreover its time to re-double our efforts and drive through change even in the face of challenging financial conditions.
