Universal Access to Patient Notes

Tuesday, December 6th, 2011

In order that health professionals from a multitude of services can collaborate as effectively as possible over patient care, it is important to ensure quick and easy access to all aspects of the patient record. To assist in this process, we have created the “Therapies Viewer”, a simple web-based application that enables all NHS staff to securely access patient data held in our Therapy Manager Electronic Patient Record (EPR) system.

Key Features

The Therapies Viewer provides users with a simple search interface that allows them to quickly access Therapies patient records. The slick interface means that no training is required, and the browser-based nature of the application removes the need for software installation. It can be instantly accessed through any standard browser, but supported by Internet Explorer 6/7/8, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Safari.

Once a clinician has logged in with their secure password they are immediately given access to all aspects of the record including:

  • Past and present referrals in all Therapy services
  • Notes, Summaries and Plans
  • Assessments and Continuation Sheets
  • Appointment Details
  • Documentation and Letters to the patient, referrer and other involved professionals
  • Any attached Files (i.e. Scans)
  • Discharge Summaries

This ensures that every intervention in Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Dietetics, Speech and Language Therapy, Orthotics and Podiatry is quickly searchable and fully available.

Security

All users of the Viewer need a login which complies with NHS security requirements. An Audit History is then maintained of which patient records were viewed, when they were viewed and who by. This ensures that all activity is fully auditable.

Access to the Viewer can be securely controlled via a centralised access panel, and can also be integrated into a Trust-wide web portal alongside other applications.

Benefits

Use of the Therapies Viewer should promote data clarity and encourage more efficient collaboration between multi-disciplinary teams. Furthermore, patient information will then be consistent across the entire Trust, reducing the instance of administrative errors.

Staff will also spend less time locating and pulling paper notes, reducing the time taken to collate documents such as care packages for discharged Inpatients. In the case of complaints or solicitors requests for files, the response time should be dramatically reduced

Talented Developer? Pathway Software needs you…

Thursday, October 6th, 2011

Pathway Software is not like many other companies in the Healthcare technology space. We are a small, fast-paced, highly responsive business that develops simple software for Therapists in the NHS. We take a “lean innovation” approach to help us deliver software that clinicians really want to use. We are self-funded, independent, profitable and totally committed to providing therapists with functional software that doesn’t get in the way of the job.

About the job

We’re a small start-up so you’ll need to be prepared to muck in with anything and everything. That said, the job will have three key elements to it:

1. Maintain, support and enhance Therapy Manager, our lead product. This quite a responsibility but you won’t be left to your own devices. You’ll work closely with our Head of Development and liaise with our users in the NHS. As a result, you’ll need to be communicative and able to quickly grasp business processes and translate them into user-friendly functionality. Therapy Manager has a SQL*Server back-end and the front-end is developed using Gupta/Centura, although we are in the process of transitioning it to .NET.

2. Play an important role in the development of a new suite of web-based products that will complement Therapy Manager. The products will be highly functional, super intuitive applications for Therapists working in hospitals and out in the Community. The skills you will need include: Java, VB/C#/.NET. and HTML+CSS+JS. We’ll also start to push into the world of Tablets so an understanding or interest in Android/iOS would be helpful, but not critical.

3. Help to support our internal infrastructure. Don’t worry you won’t end being a support technician. We’re a small company and all very tech savvy but occasionally we need help with things like: WordPress customisation, SEO mods on our own website, Virtual Server configuration and so on.

About you

This is a job for an ambitious multi-talented graduate. You need to have the core skills that we require but you’ll also need to be an all-rounder and fit into our closely-knit but very talented team. This job will work for you if:

  • You stand out among your peers for your communication skills
  • You’re looking for a job that will let you use ALL of your talents, and develop new ones
  • You are self-motivated and able to set your own schedule
  • You are realistic about setting and always able to hit deadlines
  • You have an unquenchable thirst for learning
  • You’re obsessive about attention to detail
  • You share our music taste – helpful but not critical!

Qualifications

You should have a 2.1 or higher in a Computing related degree.

About us

We run our business super-efficiently by employing the brightest minds and using software that is simple, but highly functional. The companies that inspire us include 37 Signals, Zendesk, Balsamiq and Omni Group.

You will love working with us, here’s why:

  • You will get all the help and support you could possibly imagine
  • You will never experience bureaucracy, dithering or indecision
  • You will have a real say in the direction of a living, breathing product
  • You will be working with super-talented people
  • You will actively be contributing to the development of our small business
  • Your opinion will be sought out on a whole range of topics (not just development)
  • You will work in an excellent environment with top-end equipment
  • You will be paid competitively for your skills
  • You will be encouraged to take your holidays

If that sounds like you, send a CV and covering letter to natalie.lines@pathwaysoftware.com

Good luck, and we look forward to hearing from you!

Pathway Software completes major installation of Therapy Manager at Chesterfield Royal Hospital

Wednesday, July 6th, 2011

Pathway Software has successfully completed the roll-out of its Therapy Manager software to the Physiotherapy, Speech & Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Orthotics and Dietetics departments at Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

Therapy Manager is now being actively used by over 120 therapists for waiting list management, scheduling, assessment, clinical notes, discharge and performance management within Out-Patient, In-Patient and community care settings. A second phase, focused on clinical enhancements and further integration, is expected to commence in the near future.

Mr Bob Bond, Director of Pathway Software, said:

“We are very pleased to have successfully concluded this phase of the project on time and on budget. The project itself went extremely smoothly as a result of tight project management and close collaboration between ourselves and the Trust project team led by Michaela Wright and Sarah Stockdale”

Mrs Michaela Wright, Head of Speech & Language Therapy at Chesterfield Royal and Project Lead for the Implementation of Therapy Manager said:

“We are very happy with how the implementation of Therapy Manager has gone. This was a big project with staff at differing levels of IT skill and readiness to accept an electronic record system. The ease of use of the system and the untiring support and professionalism of Pathway’s staff has contributed hugely to it’s successful implementation and use across all clinical areas. As a management tool having accessible real time information on clinical capacity and activity is superb. As the system becomes more deeply embedded into everyday practice we are looking forward to Phase Two of the project.”
